and never again, never again, they gave us two shots to the back of the head and we're all dead now. it was wednesday, third period. and guess that meant? effing gym class. ashley hated gym class. hated it with a passion. you wanna know why? she hated it because of the way that the jock boys sweat, the way the locker room smelled, how everyone watched you when you ran, and how much ashley felt like she needed a three hour shower afterwords. so she headed to gym class with a huff, the only semi-good thing about it was that damien was with her. damien, her bestest est friend in the whole wide world. this was one of the few classes they shared together, and even if it was ashley's least favorite, he made it okay.
so she made her way into the locker room, changing into the gym kit they made all the students wear--grey shirt, red shirt. school colors, WOO. the grey shirt ashley decided on today was a random one she found in her house with a little skull on it. it was a misfits skull, she remembered, a smile on her face as she pulled it over her head. she quickly took off her pants and pulled on some red shorts on. throwing her hair in a messy ponytail, she realized she'd have to take out her nose ring--the gym teachers didn't allow jewelry. but ashley wasn't going to, this time.
quickly bundling up her clothes, she threw them in her locker and shut the door, clicking the combination lock closed and twirling the dial. she sighed and lifted her leg on the bench to tie up her converse. they were an old pair and used for this reason only; gym. after that was done she headed over to one of the mirrors on the wall. the room had too many, but ashley just needed to do a quick check.
finally satisfied, ashley walked out of the locker room and into the gym. the teacher was fiddling with the radio because kids were still changing. she sat on one of the bleachers, kicking her gym shoes against it. waiting for damien was something that would take only a minute, since he himself was a pretty fast changer. la, la, la. another boring day.

as he got changed during gym class, damien couldn't help but feel as if there was something off about today. when he arrived at the doors of concord, he instantly got a chill and something seemed not right. damien could feel it in his bones and especially his heart. he shrugged off the feeling throughout the beginning of the day, but as he started to change to in to his gym close, that feeling came back in a wave. why was he feeling so panicked? there was nothing to be afraid of. today was just a normal day of concord, nothing bad could possibly happen today. what could possibly even happen today, concord was safe!
all these things ran through damien's mind as he changed from his black jeans and purple hoodie into a pair of red shorts and a loose, gray t-shirt. he locked up his valuables in the locker and began his way out the door to the gym. damien needed to shake this feeling off right now. things were still rocky between ashley and damien and he just wanted things to feel right again. seeing her after an argument and feeling negative was never a good combination.
speak of the devil! damien saw ashley sitting on their spot on the bleachers, so one could only assume that she wasn't mad at him any more. "hey ash", damien greeted, sitting down next to ashley and giving her a pat on the head. damien glanced around the room. jocks were already tossing footballs around, girls were already forming their gossip circles...perfectly normal. this was the scene that damien saw every third period. nothing different. maybe he was just going crazy or maybe not, he'd have to ask ash. "hey ash?" damien said, getting the girls attention. "does today feel...i don't know...weird....like something bad is going to happen?" damien asked, genuine concern in his voice.

and never again, never again, they gave us two shots to the back of the head and we're all dead now. the whole argument that had gone down between damien and ashley had been pretty much forgotten. ashley didn't like, didn't want, and wouldn't argue with her best friend. especially over something stupid. it was nothing to stress over, so she wasn't going to bring up their little spat. she kicked her feet one last time before letting them dangle off the bleacher, barely hitting the ground. hey! she was short, smite her if you dare. running a hand through her hair she saw damien exit the locker room and planted a smile on her face, trying to not make it seem forced. "damiennn," she said in response, letting all fakeness drain from the smile. she loved him, he loved her. in a completely platonic way.
as he sat next to her, ashley felt her body feel instantly better. she'd been feeling a bit weird today, but nothing too out of the ordinary. it was just another ordinary day at concord. "what do you mean, off?" she asked, just as she heard the music from the cd player blare into the atmosphere. there was a cry to begin warm ups, but ashley didn't move. "ew, gym." she muttered, not wanting to run at all.
she glanced back over at damien. he seemed on edge, tense and a little weird. she narrowed her eyes, wondering what was going on. today was just normal, and damien wasn't allowed to be tense. "is there something wrong, damien? did you talk to...abbi..?" she asked softly, her voice cracking a little. ever since ashley had heard him say that he was going to ask out abbi valentine she felt....weird. ashley herself really didn't like the girl, she was far far too nice for her opinion. and she felt a little...jealous...of her for getting to be damien's boyfriend. whoa, whoa. wait, what!?

"i don't know really", damien said, scratching his head. "today just feels kind of weird. like spooky, i keep looking over my shoulders and i don't know. maybe it's because i only had a couple sips of coffee this morning. yeah, that must be it!" coffee was the key source to damien's sanity. if he didn't have coffee, who knows what the boy would be like today. "i don't feel like doing anything today", he admitted, learning back in to the bleachers a bit more. damien's teacher didn't care. he was ancient and let kids run around and do whatever they wanted. this was the perfect class to skip. "agreed, ew, gym." damien love sports, but he wasn't a big fan off the people. "everyone takes gym so seriously. no one knows how to have non competitive fun any more." damien liked dodge ball the best. he was..."beast."
at the mention of abbi, damien came back down to reality and blushed a bit. very un damien like behaviour. "well, not really, but yes. i kind of did. i mentioned it and she kissed me, so i think we are sort of going out?" it was so strange talking to ashley about abbi. he loved ashley with all his heart, but knew it could never happen. she had---manbearpig. they loved each other, damien realised this and let his feelings for abbi grow a bit more. he had always been attracted to her and lately he had been developing a bit of a crush. after that kiss, things seemed to be getting even more interesting. love was such a strange thing. " it's complicated i guess. how's mike?" damien was still a tad bit jealous, but he refused to let it show.

and never again, never again, they gave us two shots to the back of the head and we're all dead now. ashley let out a deep breath, biting her lip. usually damien's feelings were right, but nothing, to her, seemed weird about this day. ashley shrugged, letting out a little laugh. "hm, yeah, maybe it's just the coffee," she said absently, watching some of the over-achieving kids run around in circles, 'warming up'.
"neither do i," ashley said, rolling her eyes at the ceiling. it was just one of those lazy days where ashley didn't want to even move. "mhm, i agree," she said softly to him.
damien's next words almost made her heart stop. ....abbi had kissed him? and...and he was blushing? wait, whoa, no way. this...this wasn't good. ashley felt her head spinning. what the hell was going on? why was this all making her feel this way. she almost forgot how to breathe. "she kissed you?" she asked weakly, avoiding his eyes. "wow, that's great," she was able to muster, plastering a smile on her face. "oh, dating!" she said, trying with every ounce of her strength to not...well, she really didn't know. what was she feeling??? she bit her lip, and heard him say something about mike....and that's when she heard it.
the first boom went off, coming from the other end of the school. what the--? ashley heard girls screaming, followed by three more of the booms. oh, my fucking god... were those gunshots!??!?!

"yes! she did. i was rather surprised myself. usually girls don't like me like that." all the girls damien wanted were the ones that would never be interested in him. so it was a bit off to have a girl he actually cared about showing some love for once! as much as he cared for abbi, ashley was still the one he'd always wait for. wait...did ashley seem a bit...off? what was this! WHY WERE WOMEN SO CONFUSING?! damien opened his mouth, about to ask ashley about her sudden mood change, when he heard---
gunshots? no, it couldn't be. "ashley, was that---?" damien didn't need ashley to answer, because about .4 seconds later, another one went off. it was instant chaos. all around him, people began to scream and run in all different directions. great. schools make you do a million fire drills, but they never taught you anything about what to do in a situation like this. damien grabbed ashley's hand and pulled the two up into a standing position. "shit...where do we go! i knew something was wrong today!" was this really happening? in their school? "don't let go of my hand, okay?" damien half asked, half ordered. he was not going to lose ashley in all of this chaos.
